Mullein

Mullein:

The best use I have found for this herb, and there are many….
If you have a stomach virus….

Get a handful of flowers from mullein and STEEP them in 2 cups of hot water, strain this and drink one entire cup. This will almost immediately ease stomach cramps.

These flowers make a good sedative for the nervous system and also will ease pain.

Breathe in the vapors of tea made with fresh leaves for congestion.

Elderberry

Elderberry:

Dry the berries and add one half cupful to two cups of hot water and SIMMER for 10 minutes. This helps with diarrhea from a stomach virus if you drink one half cup, cold, twice a day.

Sweetgum

You can chew the hardened sap from a wound in a Sweetum Tree as a gum for fresh breath. As a child, chewing gum was not something we got except on holidays like Christmas and our birthday. We would always grab a “glob” of sap from the Sweetgum Tree as we were on the way to the barn to milk the cow.

The inner bark of the Tree can be boiled with milk and used to relieve diarrhea. Oil from the leaves of the Tree is great for killing bacteria and viruses. This may be taken orally or the oil taken from the leaves and placed on wounds to prevent infection.

Violet Toothed Polypore

Violet Toothed Polypore (as seen in photo below)

Polypore’s have great medicinal value and some can be eaten as food (which I will get to at another time). For here I will discuss what they are and the medicinal value.

The Violet Toothed Polypore grows on wood, preferrably dead hardwood. They are a fungi that are decomposers and/or parasites.

This Polypore has medicinal properties of being anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, anti-tumor and immune enhancing. The best way I have found to use this fungi is to make a tea. You can make a nice invigorating tea from the “shells” and drink this for all of the above mentioned needs. I have soaked these overnight in sterile water and used this water for cuts. It aids in the healing proces and keeps away those nasty bacteria that eat at your flesh and cause horrid infections.

Cabbage

Cabage can decrease your risk of cancer, prevent and heal ulcers, increase your immune system, kill viruses.

Try to eat cabbage at least once a week. It is best to eat some raw once a week as well.

Blueberries

Blueberries are great for diarrhea, to kill viruses, block damage to blood vessels.

For diarrhea make dried blueberry soup with 1/3 ounce of blueberries and 1 cup of water.
